Carbon Leaf is an amazing Virgina-based band who has played the William & Mary campus on multiple occasions.  Crew member Josh Goldman initially suggested the song as a perfect fit for Rough Draft.  As it so happened, the song was on a promo CD that Caitlin had been given by the band as a thank you for staffing one of their on-campus concerts the year before, and it was one of her favorites.  The band was extremely helpful when contacted about the use of the song, and they soon agreed to allow it to become a part of the Rough Draft soundtrack.

Graham Colton is a singer-songwriter who hails from Oklahoma City, just like Rough Draft’s writer/director Caitlin Clements.  Caitlin first heard him perform an acoustic version of this song at a concert in March of 2010.  At that point, she was still in the process of finishing the script for Rough Draft, but she instantly knew that this song was perfect for the film.  Fortunately, Graham Colton graciously agreed to allow his song to be used in the film when Caitlin contacted him.

In April 2011, there was a Rough Draft “mini reunion” at William & Mary’s Swem Media Center as Caitlin, Thuraya, and Zan hit the studio to record the official audio commentary for the DVD of the film.  Armed with plenty of pizza, chocolate, and gummy worms, the trio emerged several hours later having laid down a track full of insights and witticisms.  If you would like to hear their handiwork for yourself, send us a message through the “Contact” form and let us know that you’re interested in getting a DVD…
